Good morning!!
We hope today’s (Tuesday) Thots find you in good health and warmth. We have power and the office is warming up. We’ll be open regular hours for the rest of the week. I had a prepared Thot for today, but will share it with you next week. Instead I have decided to share with you what happened this morning:
I woke this morning and said to my wife, I’m going to the local shelter to adjust the folks there… (after all, it’s going to be AT LEAST 24-48 hrs + before the valley gets power and heat restored)… Seeing how the Governor and President have declared a state of emergency for CT, I’m gonna go serve… I was escorted out of the facility by police within a half hour…
So I walked into the Canton Community Center Shelter and I started adjusting folks. After a half dozen adjustments or so, maybe fifteen minutes a local businessman/politician asked me to stop and come with him.
I replied that I would after I adjust the man on the table to which he responded forcefully with “now, right now, come with me” and he kept on repeating it. I kept repeating, yes, I will, but I’m going to serve first…
He said come with me now or I’m calling the police… I said sure, go ahead, that’s fine and adjusted the dude on the table.
So I went out into the cafeteria and announced myself, explained how we were here to serve the people by adjusting them and warming their insides, their souls, their hearts, … that an adjustment turns on life. I explained that I was doing it all for free. Someone asked who I was, and replied it doesn’t matter because I’m not here to become known.
Next thing I know the shelter director is in front of me with her right hand person saying how much they love chiropractic. So I said great, hop on up and we’ll get you adjusted also. Then she started in..
“I don’t know you, I don’t know your credentials, I don’t have insurance on you.” So I showed her my license and told her I’d fax the insurance when I got back to the office because my malpractice and liability cover me even when I’m not in the office. She continued, “This isn’t a medical facility to provide treatments Dr. Nardi”
… My response: Good, ‘cuz I’m not an MD or treating anyone… I’m providing them life and hope, energy and inspiration for their soul.” She kept pressing that she appreciates my passion and willingness to help, that my heart is in the right place but that it is wrong of me to be there…
“WHAT?!! Since when is it wrong to help people in need?” I think someone else needs to get their heart in the right place.
At this point the assistant stepped in and asked me why I wasn’t in my office, … I said I’m not in my office until 3 PM, so I’m free to help people and volunteer my time. Then she asked, “don’t you want a full exam on the people before you adjust them?” I replied that I am doing everything here that I do in my office…. at which point, She picked up my table and started folding it up…
That’s when I got ornery and dropped an f-bomb about how everything is about liability and legality and not service… (I apologized for that, it was wrong of me because there were children present, though I don’t apologize for what I said, just how I said it)
Then the cop stepped in… he feeds me a line about allowing a reiki practitioner in my office to which I replied, “I have.” Then I looked at him and said, “if I may..” I put my hand on his shoulder and said “I’m here sharing love with the people, offering hope, and I’m serving them, just like you… his response, “Get your hand off me.” in that if you don’t I’m gonna kick your butt authority voice (seriously dude?!) … I was like this is crazy, I threw my hands up in the air and said fine, I’ll pick up my things and leave. I picked up my table and walked out under police escort all the way to my car…. For showing up to help people without permission.
Wouldn’t you help a neighbor in need if you saw them struggling? My family was taken care of so I went to the next level to love my brother and sister.
Think about what this says about the society we live in today… it’s all legal, all paperwork, all “going through the right channels… even in a state of emergency… no love, no service, no God… If I was a politician I likely would have asked permission, but I’m not, I’m a servant, I just do… naive; thinking only of His people… maybe… but I’d rather that then then the red-tape… I mean what are they going to arrest me for? Trespassing, helping others? Public disturbance? The legal answer is yes, any of the above and I’m sure something else that I can’t think of right now.
Needless to say, I’m fired up and ready to serve you folks. Spend as long as you want in the office the next few days, the temperature is on the rise and will be warm by office hours today when we open at 3PM… I’d offer to have any number of you spend the night because it’s warm, but I haven’t asked my landlord yet
